DIOR x PARLEY

Parley and the House of Dior collaborate to create Beachwear Capsule Collections made from Parley Ocean Plastic® and call for change in the fashion industry

The Dior x Parley story begins with a joint research project in 2019. With a shared appreciation for the beauty of the sea and the transformative power of fashion, we entered into a collaboration with Kim Jones, artistic director of Dior Men’s, to explore the possibilities of incorporating more responsible and eco-innovative materials into the iconic French fashion house’s collections. Following the Parley AIR Strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign), Dior’s ateliers mastered the challenge of reworking hard-to-recycle materials into luxury yarns and fabrics. We have since incorporated new materials and introduced three men’s Beachwear Capsules made from Parley Ocean Plastic® – our material created from upcycled marine plastic debris and fishing gear recovered from coastlines and remote islands around the world (e.g., the Maldives, the Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka).

Each wearable item in these capsules is a Symbol of Change and a messenger for the movement to protect the oceans, representing the power of collaboration and reflecting Dior’s desire to move towards a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion. As Kim Jones explained in a letter on World Oceans Day 2023, the collaboration is a call to action, “a concept of circularity carried by infinite inventiveness to (re) conceive tomorrow’s world.”

“The collaboration between Dior and Parley for the Oceans was born out of our desire to preserve and celebrate it, but above all out of a shared, passionate vision: to transform fashion so that together we can build a more responsible future.”

KIM JONES — ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, DIOR HOMME

Beach Capsule / Dior Men’s Fall 2022 — On Earth Day in April 2022, we announced our first Ocean Plastic® collection with Dior, incorporating our upcycled materials into their couture material production methods to create high-quality fabrics, such as a jacquard, a mesh knit and a technical canvas. The wearable items marked the start of a new alliance, reflecting Dior’s desire to move towards a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion with Parley and our AIR Strategy: Avoid, Intercept, Redesign. To celebrate the launch and the inspiration behind it, Dior invited Parley to take over every Dior’s social media channels on World Oceans Day to share the work of our global teams, alongside educational content about the importance of protecting the oceans.

Beach Capsule / Dior Men’s Fall 2023 — The partnership released a second committed Beach Capsule that reflects the mutual goals of our partnership, the splendor of the oceans and, again, a call to build a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion. Made from respectful and innovative materials, and composed of 96% upcycled fabrics, this second collection contains pieces which combine comfort, elegance and technicality. “Wearing a piece of Dior x Parley is an act of rebellion,” said Cyrill Gutsch, CEO & Founder of Parley. “It shows that you want to solve the environmental crisis we are facing in a creative and optimistic way.”

Beach Capsule / Dior Men’s Fall 2024 — For the third year running, we partnered with Dior on a Beachwear Capsule reflecting the goals of our ongoing partnership. Building on the conscious creations from the previous two capsules, the 2024 line is composed of 100% innovative materials, with 30% of the garments designed using Parley Ocean Plastic®, transforming each garment into a ‘Symbol of Change’ — products that support the environmental cause and Parley’s long-term vision for a Material Revolution.

Parley x Dior x Bananatex® — To encourage top creatives to engage with regenerative materials, Dior and Parley also produced a one-of-a-kind jacket made completely of Bananatex® textiles. Bananatex® is the world’s first durable, technical, biodegradable and plastic-free fabric made purely from the naturally grown Abacá banana plants. This collaboration showcases how major fashion houses can incorporate natural materials into commercial collections.
