Dior x Parley: a second capsule Collection by Kim jones
Parley and Kim Jones collaborate on a second Beachwear Capsule featuring Ocean Plastic® in call to action for the creative industries
For the second year running, Kim Jones and the House of Dior collaborated with Parley to create a committed Beach Capsule that reflects the mutual goals of our partnership, the splendor of the oceans, and a call to build a more eco-innovative, sustainable future for fashion. Made from respectful and innovative materials, and composed of 96% upcycled fabrics, this second collection contains pieces which combine comfort, elegance and technicality.
The Dior and Parley story begins with an eco-innovative research project in 2019, which has since given life to new yarns and fabrics designed from Parley Ocean Plastic® - created with upcycled marine plastic debris and fishing gear recovered from coastlines and remote islands around the world (in this case, primarily the Maldives, the Dominican Republic and Sri Lanka). The material was reworked in Dior's ateliers, presenting a new challenge to the artisans to create high-quality fabrics, such as seersucker, silky knit and technical fabrics.
Each item — shorts, pants, tees, polo shirts, sweaters, a reversible jacket, an openwork tank top with the “Dior” signature, even wetsuits created using recycled jerseys made with VISSLA and a surfboard designed with the Notox brand, featuring cutting-edge technical properties — is a work of art that embodies the values of innovation dear to Dior.
They become symbols of change that support our movement and demonstrate the possibilities of eco-innovation, especially with the far-reaching influence of the fashion world. As Parley founder Cyrill Gutsch remarked, “Together with Kim Jones and his fantastic team we have delivered the proof that driving the Material Revolution is not a sacrifice, but answers to a new desire. To protect the oceans, to protect our climate and to protect our future.”
“Wearing a piece of Dior x Parley is an act of rebellion, it shows that you care dearly. It shows that you want to solve the environmental crisis we are facing, in a creative and optimistic way.”
