In Racing Extinction, Academy Award-winning director Louie Psihoyos exposes the heartbreaking realities of what’s at stake as the world shaped by humans navigates the 6th mass extinction event. Parley is collaborating with Louie and his organization Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) to help ensure the film’s imperative messages are not only seen and heard, but also acted upon around the world.

There have been five previous mass extinctions on this planet, each preceded by a massive spike in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. We’re currently experiencing the worst recorded pattern of species die-offs since the dinosaurs disappeared 65 million years ago. At this rate, we stand to lose half the animals on Earth by the middle of the century.
Scientists have confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt that we've already entered the sixth mass extinction event — and we humans are largely to blame. In other words, we will be our own asteroid should we continue on the present course of destruction. To our credit, our species has the knowledge, imagination, and volition to turn this thing around. We also have the tools, and among the most powerful are cameras.
Humankind needs a wake-up call, or a motivating “weapon of mass instruction” that catalyzes action rather than despair. In “Racing Extinction," Parley collaborator Louie Psihoyos, OPS and an undercover team of photographers and activists provide exactly that. Nobody wants to confront the realities of mass extinction, but it's impossible to ignore the truth once it's illuminated on a screen — or projected onto the world's most iconic buildings — directly in front of you.
