PARLEY X ANOTHER MAGAZINE: PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

What does the #StateOfTheOceans mean to you?
Show us in a photo and you might land on a Parley expedition.

In honor of World Oceans Day and the tenth anniversary of Parley, we’re teaming up with AnOther Magazine and Harley Weir for a month-long photography project. Creators and storytellers everywhere, of all skill levels and with any equipment, are invited to submit photos of the water (or otherwise) inspired by the brief “Beauty and Fragility,” with the goal to inspire action during the most pivotal months for humanity’s future. The winner will be given the opportunity to photograph an editorial for one of Parley’s global expeditions in 2023.

Creativity, collaboration and eco-innovation are humanity’s superpowers. Art doesn’t just tell the story — it shapes our world. A photo says what even a thousand words cannot, and can help bridge the gap between awareness and empathy. Imagine the world we could create if we used the tools of connectivity to actually reconnect to each other, nature, the wildlife we are already losing, and the beauty we can still protect.

“Our movement depends on imagery. People believe what they see. Even if you're aware of the threats, the connection is different once when you're visually confronted. A photo can start a revolution and be one of the most powerful instruments of change. This is our invitation to a global community to help us tell the story of the oceans and create a better future.”

HOW TO SUBMIT

Let’s make Instagram a photo-sharing app again, at least for the month of June. Participants are asked to upload their submissions to Instagram, tag @parley.tv and use the contest hashtag #StateOfTheOceans. A shortlist will be compiled and one winner will be selected by leading fashion photographer Harley Weir, who in 2018 curated rubbish_1, a collaborative exhibition about plastic waste.

The best entries will be published on anothermag.com, and the winner will be sent on a journey into the wild with a Parley crew in 2023, to experience and document first hand what the Parley team and collaborators witness in their work across the globe.

The competition is open to all – participants can be anywhere, any age, and any skill level.
