Parley Indonesia
Protecting Paradise
The Parley Global Cleanup Network works to protect marine environments from plastic pollution and other threats. Through collaborative cleanups with local businesses and organisations, our teams intercept plastic waste from beaches, remote islands, rivers, mangroves and coastal communities. With cleanups in 30 countries so far and counting, the Network also works on local education, awareness campaigns and government engagement to drive change.
Each country team shares our vision for healthier oceans globally, and works locally to champion the Parley AIR Strategy in their nation. As of 2021, Parley has worked with over 750 collaborators, engaged over 260,000 volunteers and conducted more than 4500 cleanups worldwide.
Parley Indonesia is working in collaboration with more than 16 local organizations and around eight different islands in order to organize cleanups and champion education initiatives across the country. Indonesia is known for its natural beauty and eco-tourism, yet faces a serious threat on all fronts due to plastic pollution.
FEATURED PROJECTS
Cleanup Efforts
Parley has been working in collaboration local organizations and volunteers to organize cleanup initiatives across Indonesia.
Upacara Besar Segara Kertih
Upacara Besar Segara Kertih is a ceremony to keep the ocean in peace and in balance that happens in Bali every 25 years. This year was a very historical moment because it was the first year that plastic infiltrated the tradition, bringing up the issue of this threat, and requiring cleanup efforts after the event.
Education
As part of our global Parley AIR (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) strategy, Parley is leading education initiatives with Indonesian youth.
Youth Climate Strike
On March 15th 2019 more than 1.6 million students all over the world took the streets to protest the lack of meaningful action by politicians and decision-makers when it comes to climate change. Parley Indonesia supported the School Strike for Climate movement through cleanup and education initiatives.
