Parley x Twin Fin: FUNDRAISER FOR MAUI
How our community came together to raise money for those affected by the wildfires on the island
On August 8th wildfires decimated Lahaina, a historic town on the coast of Maui, one of Hawai’i’s major islands. It was one of the worst natural disasters Hawai’i had ever seen and the deadliest fire in US history for over a century. The community response across Hawai’i has been one of immense solidarity in the face of intense hardship, people doing what they can to support those who have been affected.
To that end, on Friday September 15th we hosted a fundraiser for Maui with our partners The Twin Fin Hotel, a resort located along the coast of Waikīkī on Oahu. Long-time friend of Parley and legendary shark photographer Mike Coots spoke alongside fashion designer and lei maker Meleana Estes. There was music, fireworks, vegetarian pupus and proceeds raised went towards the building of a youth center in collaboration with Kahākukahi in Napili. The evening was a wonderful demonstration of the community coming together in response to historic disaster.
Parley Hawai’i coordinator Kahi Pacarro said: “The sold-out Coconut Club at the Twin Fin Waikiki was filled with love, not just for the oceans but also for Maui. We shared stories about sharks and lei-making while raising thousands in donations at the door and hundreds more online. Our first attempt at fundraising for Kahākūkahi and their Ocean Immersion Clinics was a success. We look forward to continuing our efforts to support our ohana on Maui and encourage you to do so too. Our partnership with The Twin Fin kicked off in 2022 and since then, the hotel has eliminated the sale of single-use plastics, installed filtered water stations, put reusable water bottles in each and removed single-use toiletries from the rooms.
