Parley Collective x Vortic
12 leading contemporary art galleries from around the world have joined forces to raise funds for Parley’s Global Cleanup Network through a series of virtual art exhibitions
Parley was founded in the heart of the art community and strongly believes the artist has the power to initiate conversations through their chosen mediums that might otherwise never take place. The art industry has a unique ability to reach a global, cross-cultural and diverse audience to drive environmental activism and change. Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and a parallel surge in pollution from single-use plastics, the art world has experienced a disruption to its usual calendar of events. This offers the chance for all to collectively reflect on the industry’s environmental impact and the need to prioritize climate-conscious decision making.
To highlight innovative ways the art world can use digital tools to reduce their carbon footprint, Parley is collaborating with 12 global contemporary art galleries and the extended reality (XR) platform, Vortic, to launch the Parley Collective.
Each participating gallery in the Parley Collective will donate between 5-10% of the proceeds from its virtual exhibition to help fund Parley’s Global Cleanup Network. The network operates in over 28 countries and carries out vital work around the world including the collection and removal of plastic waste, and the development of programs which support education, communication, and eco-innovation.

“At Parley, we believe the creative community has a strong ability to help create change. With the current fragile state of the world, there is an urgent need for action. Vortic is an eco-innovative XR platform that plays a vital role in the way we can experience art today, and is creating real change within the art industry. We are truly thankful for the leading galleries who have united to support our cause. It's a true collaborative effort and a true testament for the desire to end this era of destruction and begin a new era of creativity.”
Cyrill Gutsch, Founder and CEO of Parley for the Oceans
“Parley for the Oceans is an incredible community of creative thinkers who are driving real change in protecting our oceans and we are delighted to have been able to bring this international partnership of galleries and artists together under the banner of Parley Collective on Vortic, to support their vital work. One of the main drivers that led me to develop the Vortic platform was to see how galleries might reduce their environmental impact and use the digital sphere to do this. Vortic has shown that innovative digital technology can enable people to engage with art virtually, in a truly immersive way that closely replicates physical viewing experience.”
Oliver Miro, Founder of Vortic
"I am proud to participate in Parley for the Oceans x Vortic and support Parley's initiatives with a special presentation featuring Jean-Marie Appriou, Shara Hughes, and Tobias Pils. The creative community, every community, must help enact change, and I thank Parley and Vortic for bringing us galleries together to support Parley's Global Cleanup Network. The network operates in over 28 countries and is currently facing an increase in single-use plastic found in oceans, a consequence of Covid-19 that some of us may not be aware of but is a great threat to sea life and human health."
Eva Presenhuber, Owner Galerie Eva Presenhuber
“Through their work, Parley makes an important contribution to the preservation of the oceans and thus to the protection of our global climate. I am therefore pleased to be able to support them through this initiative of Parley Collective on Vortic.”
Johann König, Owner KÖNIG GALERIE
“Bringing together projects by artists of different international art galleries for the common goal of raising awareness of the current environmental state of our oceans immediately struck me as a very mindful initiative. While globally considered, the art world is only a small industry, it has the almost unique ability to reach a wide cross-cultural and multi-linguistic audience. ‘Parley Collective’ is harnessing this power for a very useful cause. We will be presenting works by Daniel Steegmann Mangrané and Etienne Chambaud, both of their work is often inspired by natural, environmental phenomena.”
