Creativity, collaboration and eco-innovation can change the world.

There is no perfect environmentalist, and no magic fix for the environmental crisis. We need everyone participating in solutions and owning the responsibility to act — individually, collectively, locally and globally.

Parley addresses complex ocean threats with a multidisciplinary, collaborative approach. Combining the arts, education and communication, direct impact, material innovation, and scientific research, our initiatives bridge seemingly disparate groups, boost knowledge-sharing and build realistic frameworks for a crucial process of change.

FEATURED INITIATIVES

  • Parley Future Material®

The ultimate goal is to develop new materials that can replace harmful substances in every industry, function in symbiosis with the planet and biodegrade in conditions which are actually found in nature.

  • Parley Ocean Plastic®

Parley Ocean Plastic® is a range of premium materials created from upcycled plastic intercepted in areas where mismanaged waste poses a threat to marine life and coastal communities.

  • Clean Waves

Clean Waves sunglasses are made from marine plastic debris and reclaimed fishing nets – one of the key threats to life in the oceans. 100% of proceeds support cleanups and education in remote island regions.

  • FORESTS OF THE SEA

A landmark new initiative, Forests of the Sea unites marine scientists, conservationists, creators and communities to help research, protect and preserve global kelp forests for future generations.

EDUCATION

Parley Ocean School initiatives take an immersive approach to environmental education, connecting learners of all ages with the knowledge, tools and inspiration to act. Developed with a global network of educators and experts, our in-person and online lessons balance local and global issues, connect big-picture thinking with immediate impacts, and instill in each individual a sense of place and agency within the movement to end today’s biggest marine threats. We tailor programs for local communities, corporate groups and are rolling out physical Ocean Schools at our AIR Stations throughout the world, starting in South Africa, Hawai’i and Chile.

ART PROGRAM

Parley for the Oceans was founded in the heart of the art community, with early supporters like Julian Schnabel and Ed Ruscha creating new work in support of the organization and the ocean cause. Parley has since expanded its program and collaborated on projects ranging from underwater sculptures to sustainable surfboards with leading contemporary artists including Doug Aitken, Walton Ford, Jenny Holzer, Pipilotti Rist, Rosemarie Trockel, David LaChapelle, Bharti Kher, Katharina Grosse, Peter Shuyff and Tobias Rehberger. Fostering collaboration within and beyond the art world, Parley works with artists and galleries to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of the oceans and help end their destruction.

Ocean Plastic®

Developed by Parley and our network of material scientists, Ocean Plastic® is a range of premium materials for the sports, fashion, design and luxury industries made from intercepted and upcycled marine plastic debris.

Ocean Plastic® provides a replacement for virgin plastic materials across a range of applications and allows for the implementation of our long-term strategy: Parley AIR — Avoid, Intercept, Redesign. Working with major brands, fashion designers, furniture makers and more, we have created a global supply chain that continually removes plastic from ocean-facing island nations and transforms it into Symbols of Change — products that support the cause and our long-term vision for a Material Revolution.

Science & RESEARCH

Parley collaborates with a network of scientists, experts and innovators to advance and advocate for a deeper understanding of marine life, ecosystems, the spread of plastic pollution and its impact on oceans and human health. Our research subjects span whale snot to high-fashion textiles. With the help of our partners, we garner support for the protection and restoration of sea forests, boost eco-innovation in non-invasive marine mammal research, and collect data to inform stronger material standards alongside the development of new materials that can replace current plastics and work in harmony with nature.

Partnerships

Collaboration is the nucleus of Parley, and the heart and soul of our mission. Everyone has a role to play. To accelerate and grow the movement, we’ve formed alliances with major partners including adidas, American Express, Anheuser Busch InBev (Corona), Republic of Maldives, United Nations, World Bank, British Fashion Council, Dior, Brita, Talisker, Sea Change Project, Biofabricate and collaborators spanning the worlds of science, art, fashion, design, technology, finance, entertainment, sports, space and ocean exploration.
